「ソーラー・ポンズの事件簿」
（東京創元社）		 　〈ソーラー・ポンズ〉のシリーズはコナン・ドイルの息子エイドリアン・コナン・ドイル＆黄金時代の巨匠ディクスン・カーの合作短編集「シャーロック・ホームズの功績」と、短編の名手として知られるアメリカの作家ロバート・L・フィッシュの〈シュロック・ホームズ・シリーズ〉とともに贋作ホームズ作品の中でも特に優れ、重要な作品の一つに位置づけられているシリーズです。

　著者であるアメリカの作家オーガスト・ダーレスはイギリス・ロンドンには実際には一度も行ったことがなかったそうですが、それを全く感じさせないほどロンドンの街の雰囲気とホームズのキャラクターがホームズ譚に瓜二つに描かれています。

　物語の舞台はベイカー街221Ｂを思わせるプレイド街７番地Ｂを舞台とし、ワトソン役としてリンドン・パーカー博士が語り手を務め、外務省に勤める兄バンクロフトがいる所まで原典にそっくりです。

　著者のダーレスは多作家としても有名ですが、ポンズ譚も数多く書かれていて、全部で１つの長編と70を超す短編が発表されています。
