（論創社）		 　本名をジョン・クリーシーというイギリスの推理小説家で、イギリス推理作家協会（ＣＷＡ）の創設者の一人として、そして〈ギデオン警視〉シリーズの作者としても有名な人物です。

　ギデオン警視シリーズは、エド・マクベインの〈87分署〉シリーズなどに代表される今日の警察小説で多く用いられている、複数の事件が同時に発生するいわゆる「モジュラー型」の小説の先駆けとして歴史に名を残したシリーズです。

　事務職を転々とした後1935年から専業作家となりますが、大変な多作家として有名であり、24のペンネームを用いて40年間で500以上の長編を残しているそうです。
　そしてあまりの作品数の多さにその生前に全てが出版しきれず、その死後何年もかかってようやく全てが発表されたといいます。
　彼の作品は世界中で翻訳されていて総計6000万部以上売れたといいます。

　その中で代表作とされている作品はやはり〈ギデオン警視〉シリーズが中心で、 1956年、「ギデオン警視の一週間」でイギリス推理作家協会（ＣＷＡ）賞シルヴァー・ダガー賞を、1962年、「ギデオンと放火魔」でアメリカ探偵作家クラブ（ＭＷＡ）賞最優秀長編賞を受賞しています。

　またその活躍は作家活動だけに止まらず、1953年に設立されたイギリス推理作家協会（ＣＷＡ）の中心人物として設立に腐心し、その初代会長も勤めています。
　そしてそのＣＷＡの最優秀処女長編賞は、彼のこれらの功績を讃え彼の本名を冠して「ジョン・クリーシー記念賞」と名付けられています。

　更にクリーシーは1966から67年にかけてはアメリカ探偵作家クラブ（ＭＷＡ）の会長にも就任しています。		 ギデオンと放火魔
